Okay, here we go! My absolutely, utterly unfiltered review of the (that translates to "Incredible Rezens Hotel: Paradise Corner in Kaifeng!"). Buckle up, because this ain't your grandma's travel blog. We’re going deep, folks. We're going real. And I’m gonna be honest, the name alone sets my expectations. Paradise Corner? Kaifeng? Let's see if they can deliver!
First things first: Accessibility. Now, I’m not in a wheelchair, thankfully, but I do appreciate a hotel thinking about everyone. Wheelchair accessible? I saw ramps, elevators, the whole shebang. Good start! They've got facilities for disabled guests listed, which is always a plus. Now, I didn't test all of that, but the bones seem good. Definitely a point for caring.
Getting Around: Car park [free of charge] - YES! Free parking is my love language. Car park [on-site]. Even better. Valet parking? Fancy! Although, I’m more of a "find my own spot and pray I remember where" kind of person. They also offer Airport transfer and Taxi service, which is super convenient.
Rooms, Glorious Rooms! (Available in all rooms): Okay, here’s where things get… interesting. First off, the basics: Air conditioning (a MUST in China, trust me), Free Wi-Fi (bless!), and Air conditioning. Oh wait, I already said that… well, it’s important, alright?! Alarm clock, Bathrobes, Coffee/tea maker (huzzah!!), Hair dryer, Ironing facilities (for the few who still iron!), Mini bar, Refrigerator (essential for midnight snacks – don't judge!), TV with Satellite/cable channels, Slippers (luxury!), and Towels. Basically, the usual suspects.
But here’s where the details get juicy: Additional toilet (score!), Bathtub (romantic!), Blackout curtains (for serious sleep!), Closet, Complimentary tea (tea snobs, rejoice!), Desk (I like to pretend I'm working while I'm on vacation), Extra long bed (very welcome!), Free bottled water, High floor (always request!), In-room safe box, Internet access – LAN (blast from the past! Though, Internet access – wireless is the real hero), Laptop workspace (for those really working vacations), Linens, Mirror, Non-smoking (thank goodness!), On-demand movies (always a weakness), Private bathroom, Reading light, Scale (cringe, but necessary sometimes), Seating area, Separate shower/bathtub (fancy!), Shower, Smoke detector, Socket near the bed (genius!), Sofa, Soundproofing, Telephone, Toiletries, Umbrella, Visual alarm, Wake-up service, Window that opens. Whew! That’s a lot of features! Look, the room's a win. Comfy, functional, and with enough little touches to feel like a mini-paradise - in Kaifeng, remember?!
Cleanliness and Safety (OMG, THE VIBE): This is where things get really interesting, especially post-COVID. They tout Anti-viral cleaning products, Daily disinfection in common areas, Hand sanitizer, Hot water linen and laundry washing, Hygiene certification, Individually-wrapped food options, Physical distancing of at least 1 meter, Professional-grade sanitizing services, Room sanitization opt-out available, Rooms sanitized between stays, Safe dining setup, Sanitized kitchen and tableware items, Staff trained in safety protocol, Sterilizing equipment. Okay, breathe. That is a LOT of safety measures. Now, I did notice a lot of sanitizing going on. A lot. I mean, I almost walked into a cloud of disinfectant just entering the lobby. But you know what? I felt safe. And hey, you can't be too careful, right? They also had a Doctor/nurse on call, and a First aid kit. Nice to know. But it felt a little… clinical, you know? Almost like a hospital. But hey, I'd rather be safe than sorry, and the place was spotless. Plus, they're rooms sanitized between stays – that’s a huge plus.
Dining, Drinking, and Snacking (Food, Glorious Food!): Okay, this is where I truly came to life. Let’s dive in. A la carte in restaurant? Check. Alternative meal arrangement? Always good to have options. Asian breakfast, Asian cuisine in restaurant, Breakfast [buffet], Buffet in restaurant. Alright, alright, I'm getting hungry. I LOVE a good buffet. The smell of freshly brewed coffee and some amazing food woke me up so much! Coffee/tea in restaurant, Desserts in restaurant, International cuisine in restaurant, Poolside bar, Restaurants, Room service [24-hour], Snack bar, Soup in restaurant, Vegetarian restaurant, Western breakfast, Western cuisine in restaurant. They got everything! The sheer variety was mind-boggling.
I can tell you about the Breakfast [buffet]. Listen, it was an experience. Loads of fresh fruit, pastries, and that amazing Asian breakfast I was craving from the moment I booked! They had a HUGE selection, from your typical Western fare to some seriously authentic local dishes. The pastries were amazing, some of the best I've had anywhere. The coffee was plentiful and strong. Seriously, I spent a good hour or two just wandering around, trying a little bit of everything. You will be stuffed if you go there!
The Poolside Experience: And THEN, oh my god the Pool with view. The pool! Amazing, sparkling water, surrounded by comfy lounge chairs. I spent a whole afternoon just drifting in the water, looking up at the Kaifeng sky. The fact that they have a Poolside bar just made the whole thing even more perfect. Sipping a cocktail, sun warming my skin… pure bliss!
Things to do, Ways to Relax (Spa Day, Anyone?): Now, this is where the hotel truly shines. Body scrub, Body wrap, Fitness center, Foot bath, Gym/fitness, Massage, Sauna, Spa, Spa/sauna, Steamroom, Swimming pool, Swimming pool [outdoor]. Basically, a full-on relaxation station.
I'm going to be honest, the Spa at Невероятный Резен Отель almost made me weep with joy. I did the full works: a Body scrub (exfoliating away all the travel grime), a Massage (knot-melting perfection!)… They had the whole shebang there. The spa itself was beautiful. Quiet, serene, and scented with calming aromas. The masseuse was a miracle worker. Honestly, I could have happily lived in that spa for a week. The Sauna and Steamroom were also top-notch. The real deal. It felt like a total escape from the real world.
Services and Conveniences (The Little Things): They've got it all. Air conditioning in public area, Audio-visual equipment for special events, Business facilities, Cash withdrawal, Concierge, Contactless check-in/out, Convenience store, Currency exchange, Daily housekeeping, Doorman, Dry cleaning, Elevator, Essential condiments, Food delivery, Gift/souvenir shop, Indoor venue for special events, Invoice provided, Ironing service, Laundry service, Luggage storage, Meeting/banquet facilities, Meetings, Meeting stationery, On-site event hosting, Outdoor venue for special events, Projector/LED display, Safety deposit boxes, Seminars, Shrine, Smoking area, Terrace, and even Wi-Fi for special events. Seriously, they thought of everything!
For the Kids (Family Friendly? Hmm…): Babysitting service, Family/child friendly, Kids facilities, Kids meal. They have what you need if you are traveling with kids. But as a solo traveler, I skipped over the kids' aspects.
Quirks and Imperfections: Now, the The receptionists are nice, but sometimes they seem a bit… robotic, you know? It's the little things, like the lighting in some areas could be a bit brighter and some of the signage could be clearer (especially in the sprawling spa!). And while the Wi-Fi in the rooms was great, it would occasionally cut out in the hotel lobby. Minor things, though.
The Verdict - Here's my personal opinion:
Okay, so… is it really Paradise Corner? Well, maybe not literally paradise. But it comes damn close. The staff
Let's plan a trip to… well, basically, to where my brain decided to go: Rеzеn Hotеl, Huaqianshu in Kaifeng, the Gulou district, and then Qingming Shanghе Park, China. Sounds amazing, right? (I’m crossing my fingers that it is as amazing as the photos online.)
Day 1: Arrival and the Great Hotel Gamble (Rеzеn Hotеl, Huaqianshu)
- Arrival (and the inevitable airport chaos): Okay, so first things first: flying into China. Pray to whatever deity you believe in (or don’t, no judgement!) that your luggage makes it. Seriously. I swear, every time I fly, I’m secretly holding my breath until I see that blessed carousel.
- Check-in: The Lobby of Dreams (and Potential Disasters): Rеzеn Hote, Huaqianshu. Luxury! Apparently. Let’s hope the lobby actually feels luxurious and not like a slightly nicer bus station. I’m picturing marble floors, maybe a ridiculously enormous chandelier. (And let's be honest, I also secretly hope for free snacks. I'm a sucker for free snacks.)
- Room Revelation (Fingers Crossed): Okay, time for the moment of truth: THE ROOM. Is it like the website photos? Is it clean? Do the towels smell like… well, clean? (This is a major test for any hotel, in my book.) I'm hoping for a view, but honestly, after the flight, a comfortable bed will probably be enough to make me weep with joy.
- Afternoon Stroll (If I'm still alive after the flight): Huaqianshu district! This is where the adventure really begins. My plan? Get lost. Literally, physically, completely disoriented. That's the best way to find the hidden gems, the tiny tea houses, the little shops that smell of spice and something I can't quite put my finger on… Expect me to be wandering around with my map upside down, probably bumping into a few locals, and definitely looking like a lost and confused tourist. (Spoiler: I will be).
- Dinner Debacle (Or Delight): Finding food. This is where things could get interesting. My Chinese is… well, let's just say I can order "one beer, please." That's about it. I’m envisioning myself pointing at things on the menu, hoping for the best, and possibly ending up eating something I have absolutely no idea what it is. (Bring on the adventure!)
Day 2: Gulou District and the Sweetest of Treats
- Food, Glorious Food (Repeat): Breakfast! Always a good start to the day, regardless where in the world you find yourself! I'll be hoping for a generous buffet, and maybe I'll try something really weird that the locals love.
- Gulou District Adventures (and More Getting Lost): Gulou. The Drum Tower district. Everyone tells me it's full of history, street food, and amazing things to see. I am ready. I will start by getting lost around the Drum Tower itself, taking in the sights and sounds of China. I'll stroll through the narrow streets, hoping to find those little hidden treasures I mentioned before.
- The Sweetest of Treats: Okay, so I've heard that Kaifeng is famous for its… wait for it… sweets! So, let me spend the afternoon in search of some mouth-watering sugary treats. I'm thinking candied fruits, maybe some traditional Chinese sweets. I want to experience a taste of heaven, not just a taste of the local cuisine, you know?
- Evening at the Drum Tower: The goal is to experience the Drum Tower. I'm especially excited to watch the sunset there (if all goes well), or simply gaze at its beauty. The tower will be my final spot for the day.
Day 3: Qingming Shanghе Park (and Potential Disasters)
- Qingming Shanghе Park: The Re-creation of a Dynasty (and My Mental Breakdown): This is the Big One. Qingming Shanghе Park. Supposedly a recreation of a bustling Song dynasty town. Epic, right? It looks stunning in photos. But let’s be real, theme parks can also be… exhausting. I’m already anticipating the crowds, the lines, the screaming children, and the sheer overwhelmingness of it all.
- The Park's Delights (and the Anticipation of Fatigue): So I guess I'll try to enjoy it. I will try to take in the atmosphere, admire the architecture, and maybe even try my hand at a historical reenactment.
- Evening Reflection (and the Sweet, Sweet Embrace of Sleep): After all the walking, after all the crowds, after all the sensory overload, I'll be ready to collapse. Probably order room service (because I'm too tired to leave the hotel) and then sleep for, like, twelve hours.
Day 4: Departure (and the Post-Trip Meltdown)
- Last Breakfast (with a Hint of Sadness): It's the last morning in Kaifeng. Time to savor the last bits of the buffet.
- Souvenir Hunt (and Overspending): Okay, time to buy souvenirs. I'm terrible at this. I always end up buying way too much, probably spending more than I should. But hey, that's part of the fun! (Or maybe the impending regret…)
- Travel to the Airport (and the Great Luggage Hope): Prayers that the luggage makes it. Seriously. I’m sending out positive vibes to the travel gods.
- The Flight Home (and the Post-Trip Blues): On the plane, I'll feel a mix of exhaustion, relief, and a strange sense of… well, post-trip sadness. That feeling when you know you'll miss the place, even if it also gave you a headache.
Important Notes (and My Personal Quirks):
- Language Barrier: My Chinese skills are… limited. Be prepared for a lot of pointing, gesturing, and possibly some hilariously awkward misunderstandings.
- Pace: I'm not the most organized traveler. Expect some changes to the itinerary. I might spend an entire afternoon in a tea house or get hopelessly lost for hours. That’s part of the charm, right?
- Emotions: I’m prone to emotional outbursts. Expect moments of pure joy, moments of frustration, and probably some moments of "I need a rest!"
- Photography (Obsessive): I'll be taking a million photos. Seriously. Get ready for a deluge of pictures.
- The Unexpected: Let's face it, the best part of travel is the unexpected. So, embrace the surprises (and the potential for disasters).
So, that’s the plan! Wish me luck, товарищи! I'm going to need it. (And maybe some really good travel insurance.) Let’s go!
